General

Welcome to MPM website, the year is certainly flying by again. For most of us in eastern states it is great  that the drought has finally broken. Good rains have been recorded in majority of the river catchments, the moisture  profile is full, crops are looking good and there have been some record scanning & lambing percentages. Unfortunately the seasonal conditions in the west (WA) are not so good with any significant rainfall being restricted to parts of the south west of the state with a large part of the state north of Perth and up as far as Geraldton staying dry, we really hope this changes for all our MPM breeders in WA.

MPM had it’s 2010 annual general meeting on the 26th & 27th of June at the Holiday Inn in Melbourne CBD, it was as usual a great catchup between the west aussies and the easterners. There were great presentations from Don Steele (Steelworks marketing) Spoke on brand exposure & internet marketing. Dr Mark Ferguson (WA - Department of Agriculture and Food) spoke on the importance of the ASBV and their value to the  ram breeder and the commercial breeder. Dr Jason Trompf (VIC - Co-author of the Lifetime Ewe Management Program) gave an outline of LTEM, and the importance of managing the ewe to maximise profitability. Peter Vandeleur (SA - New Merino, spoke on direct marketing of merino fibre and the importance of traceability) All the talks were very informative.

After listening to Dr Jason Trompf we as an industry leading breeding group, felt that it was important that we promote the LTEM course that is being offered around the country. We encourage all those in our networks to attend this course as an important way of improving the profitability of their flocks. Click here to download a LTEM Brochure
