MPM Sheep

Wool Principally an MPM sheep is a sheep without body wrinkle. We breed sheep with thin, loose and very soft skins. That in turn leads to soft, fast growing stylish wools that maintain those traits throughout the lifetime of the animal.

The advantages of this are:

  • Longer wools
  • Super soft wools
  • Lower microns
  • Micron Control in older sheep
  • Highly aligned wools
  • A better processing wool
  • Heavier clean fleece weights
  • Currently we have a number of our growers who shear at intervals from 6 to 9 months at lengths of around 75mm. This not only makes sheep management easier but also allows for greater cash flow.

Skins As mentioned, MPM sheep have wrinkle free skins and that is the main trait that differentiates them from your average merino. The skin is the factory, we can tell a lot about a particular sheep just be looking at its skin. Traits that derive from a wrinkle free skin are as follows:

    • Soft wools
    • Fast growing wools
    • Micron control in older sheep
    • Plain bodies
    • Faster growing lambs
    • Plain rump area for less or no mulesing
    • Open heads
    • A more maintenance free sheep
    • A more fertile ewe

Meat The sheep meat industry is an exciting industry to be in & the actual growth of the industry worldwide has been a real success story. An MPM sheep derives a big percentage of its income from meat. Most of our commercial breeders get top dollar for their wether lambs, especially when selling over the hooks. We recommend our clients to sell their young wethers over the hooks, as buyers are yet to understand the long bodies. Our meat sheep have:

    • Long bodies for extra weight
    • Early maturing
    • Good doing ability for quicker turn off times
    • A lighter coloured meat
    • Great flavour and taste
    • Good red meat yields
